On the way

These paintings began with the road—with places encountered along the way, and with the memories that remained after I had left them. Each painting begins with a place I have encountered along the way—a place that, through a memory, an experience, or a particular event, has become more than a landscape. It has become part of my personal history.

The paintings are not attempts to depict these places as they are, but to explore my relationship to them and what remains after I have left. Memory inevitably alters what we see. Colors shift, forms change, and details fade or intensify. The paintings emerge from this process of remembering, where observation, emotion, and memory become inseparable.

The landscapes are not given their geographical names. Instead, their titles refer to an experience connected to them: “The Highest Peak in Iran” rather than the name of a mountain, or “The Road to the Highest Peak in Iran” rather than the name of a particular route. Through this way of naming, the landscape is detached from its precise geographical identity and understood instead as part of a journey, a memory, or an experience.

At the center of this work is a reflection on our relationship with landscape. A landscape is never simply a place on a map; it also carries the trace of having been there. In these paintings, nature is encountered through memory, movement, and lived experience. Painting becomes a way of returning to these places—not to reconstruct them as they were, but to recover what they have become in the mind.
